Santa's Workshop

Important Announcement

Updated March 25: The Vail Recreation District's top priority is the safety and well-being of our residents, guests and employees.

In cooperation with the updated Eagle County Public Health Order plus the Colorado Statewide Stay at Home Order, and in the effort to prevent community spread of COVID-19 and to protect our most vulnerable populations, the Vail Recreation District (VRD) is canceling all programs and events, and closing all VRD facilities, effective March 13 until at least April 16, 2020.

This includes all open gyms, youth sports programs, adult leagues, lessons and clinics, walk-in sports and activities, and private rentals and events.

All VRD facilities will be closed to the public until further notice, including the Imagination Station, Dobson Arena and Vail Gymnastics Center. The Vail Nordic Center pro shop and restaurant are now closed for the season, and we are no longer grooming the trails. If you need to return season rentals, please call 970-476-8366.

With the announced closure of local schools, VRD has made the difficult decision to cancel our after-school program (KidZone) starting on Monday, March 16 until classes resume at Red Sandstone Elementary School.

For questions, please contact the respective department or facility listed here. Please understand that staffing will be limited during this time, and responses may be delayed.

Santa Claus is coming to town! Come visit with Santa and do fun holiday crafts during the Vail Recreation District's annual Santa's Workshop on Friday, Dec. 6 starting at 3 p.m.
New this year, sign up at and choose a 30-minute time slot to visit Santa between 3 p.m and 6 p.m. Each individual child must be registered. Signing up for a time slot means less waiting in line and more having fun! Please arrive at the beginning of your reserved time slot OR arrive earlier to participate in the holiday crafts before visiting with Santa.
Located in the Imagination Station, Santa's Workshop is free for children of all ages. Kids can visit and have their photo taken with Santa; then we'll print the picture and give it to you to take home! Children can also make crafts including personalized photo frames, ornaments, gifts and decorated cookies.

"Santa's Workshop is a yearly tradition for many local and visiting families," says Chad Young, VRD Community Programming Director. "It's one of our favorite events of the year! Kids will have a great time creating their own gifts, making treats and telling Santa their holiday wishes."
Also located in the same space, the Imagination Station - a play space for children ages two through 12 - will have limited activities during Santa's Workshop. The Imagination Station features a Thoughts Flow water table that encourages experimentation and problem solving, a play wall that integrates physical and cognitive learning, and other activities that inspire creativity and thoughtful play.

Starting Dec. 2, the Imagination Station will be open Monday through Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed Wednesday, Dec. 25 and Wednesday, Jan. 1.) Entry fee is $8 for ages two and older. Adults and children under two are FREE.

Vail Recreation District's Imagination Station is located above the Lionshead Welcome Center, on the south side of the Lionshead parking structure and on the Town of Vail's free in-town shuttle system. The Imagination Station offers year-round opportunities including art and science projects and new virtual reality experiences.
