“It was an easy decision to extend our hiking season. With the growing demand for hiking in Vail, we wanted more visitors and locals to experience our national forest and the impressive aspen landscapes that are so brilliant this time of year,” said Peter Suneson, Community Outreach Coordinator at Walking Mountains Science Center.
This fall, Certified Interpretive Guides from Walking Mountains Science Center will once again be guiding full-day backcountry hikes on Tuesdays and Fridays from September 6th through Halloween weekend. Additionally, Family Hikes, geared towards those who aren’t up for a full day on the trails or for those more comfortable closer to town, will be hitting the trails every Wednesday starting September 7th.
“Peter Suneson is an excellent and well prepared guide, very knowledgeable about the trail, nature, and the geography as well as the art and science of hiking. I joined him and a group of hikers on the Colorado Trail this fall. The views were spectacular! I wasn’t sure if this was an appropriate hike for me to take so I contacted Walking Mountain Science Center prior to registering and they were very helpful. If you enjoy hiking I would definitely recommend hiking with Walking Mountains,” said Deborah K., Summer Hiking Participant.
All hikes throughout the fall are geared towards experiencing the wonders of fall color in the Eagle Valley. With almost 20 years in the valley, Walking Mountains’ staff has the knowledge of the most prime locations for fall color viewing in the valley. Excursions will range from South of Camp Hale to Sylvan Lake State park and everywhere in between. Whether you are looking to stretch your legs and meet new friends or are interested in learning from the landscapes and intricacies of the unique mountain ecology, a guided hike with Walking Mountains Science Center will satisfy even the most curious of natures.
