The Zeke M. Pierce Skatepark is now open every day, dawn to 11 p.m. Youth, ages seven to 14 can join skateboard clinics from 10 a.m. to noon every Tuesday. Private lessons are also available. Helmets are required. Knee pads and wrist guards are recommended.

The facility is named for Zeke Pierce, an avid local skateboarder who lost his life in a mountain bike accident at the age of 15. It is located in the space between the two parking decks at the Lionshead parking structure, not far from where a temporary skatepark was located for many years.

Designed with input from local skaters, the $1.7 million facility was constructed by California Skateparks, one of the world’s premier park builders, and was funded by the Town of Vail. The skatepark also includes four colorful mosaic murals created by artist Valerie Theberge, sponsored by Art in Public Places.

Managed by the Vail Recreation District, the new skatepark includes features for all ages and abilities and includes a large variety of street and transition style elements. It also includes a signature “vert” feature, mini-bowl and full-size halfpipe.

The skatepark is open daily from dawn to 11 p.m. Helmets are required and safety equipment is recommended.
