The Vail Nature Center is now operated by the Walking Mountains Science Center.
A farmhouse perched between a montane meadow and the forested bank of Gore Creek houses the Vail Nature Center. This seven-acre facility in the heart of Vail is a tranquil gem whose knowledgeable staff hosts informative bird, wildflower and beaver pond tours and backcountry hikes. Classes covering special topics such as nature art, wildflower walks and fly fishing are available. The Nature Center is open seven days per week from Memorial Day weekend through the end of September.
Get your hands dirty and volunteer! Each week we will introduce an outdoor volunteer project and why it is important to our ecological community. Then we will pull together as a group to remove invasive plant species, plant native vegetation, clean up litter, and build or improve local hiking trails. Light refreshments will be provided. Bring clothes to get dirty in, water, sunscreen, sturdy closed-toed shoes, and gloves.
This program runs every Wednesday from June 15 until August 31, 10:00 a.m. to noon at our Science Center in Avon and every Sunday from June 19 until August 28, 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Vail Nature Center. Ages 16+, free.
