2020/21 - COVID-19 Rules and Guidelines for Vail Rec District Indoor Pickleball at Red Sandstone Elementary School (RSES)

These rules are to preserve the health and safety of our pickleball players and staff and to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

  • Indoor play at RSES is by reservation only in one-hour increments.
  • One-hour court reservations need to be made in advance by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., signing up online, or by calling or texting the VRD PB Director at 970-390-2952.
  • By securing a reservation, players agree to abide by established guidelines. Failure to do so will result in lost privileges for play at RSES.
  • A one-hour court reservation includes 50 minutes of play and a 10-minute buffer between reservations to ensure social distancing between players. Players should arrive no more than 10 minutes prior to the start of the reservation and must leave the facility immediately when play is finished. Post-play socializing will not be allowed. Doors will not be opened once play has started.
  • Players should wash their hands frequently with soap and water and bring personal use hand sanitizer to the courts.
  • Players should bring their own balls, paddles and water bottles marked with their name, and avoid touching other players’ equipment. Clean and wipe down your paddles and water bottles.
  • Players should adhere to CDC guidelines by not touching their face (especially after handling a ball or paddle).
  • There will be no more than 17 people, including staff at the facility at any one time. This means two courts in play and new arrivals plus one VRD staff person. Please do not enter if you see more than the maximum number allowed.
  • All players must maintain proper social distancing - six feet apart - at all times. Even if you are related or living together, set the example for all participants.
  • Players are to place their personal items (backpacks, water bottles, etc.) at a safe distance (six feet) from other players’ items to avoid any surface contact. Players will not share paddles or any other equipment or clothing.
  • Errant balls will be returned to owning player via foot or paddle push of the ball.
  • No handshakes, paddle bumps, or physical contact at any time while at the courts.
  • Face coverings must be worn at all times inside the RSES facility.
  • Players should not attend VRD pickleball sessions if they have any of the symptoms consistent with COVID-19 or if they have been knowingly exposed to anyone with COVID-19 within 14 days of the session. Players with any symptoms of illness will not be allowed to play. These symptoms include cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, fever, runny nose, head or body aches, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and new loss of taste or smell.
