The 2014 Vail Beaver Creek Mountain Bike Race Series returns for its 31st year to offer fun and exciting racing to mountain bikers of all ages and experience levels. This summer over 1,750 riders of all ages and ability levels will compete for $5,200 in cash and $30,000 in prizes. Whether competing in an individual race or signing up for the entire series, racers have the chance to win prizes, free beer and personal glory.

Description 

Larkburger Youth Series racers will start and finish at the pool and ice rink and race 1 or 2 short loops on the Haymaker Trail.

All adult riders will start on Bellyache Rd. at the Boneyard Trailhead adjacent to the The Bluffs Neighborhood. Everyone will ride up Bellyache Rd. approximately 1.5 miles before turning onto the Boneyard single track at the green gate. At the top of the climb, racers will decend the Fire and Ice Trail to the 2nd Haymaker connector (approximately 5.5 miles from start). From here...

Pro and expert categories will ride down the Haymaker switchbacks towards the Pool and Ice Rink, then do 1 long loop on Haymaker before finishing.

Sport categories will ride down the Haymaker switchbacks and do 1 short loop on Haymaker.

Beginner and Junior categories will continue down Fire and Ice to the finish.

 

Parking

Racers can park at the finish at the Pool/Ice Rink parking lots, or at after party location at The Dusty Boot and ride to the start. Racers are HIGHLY ENCOURAGED to avoid parking at the Eagle Valley Middle & High Schools, in order to avoid congestion with after school activities. There is NO PARKING ALLOWED in The Bluffs neighborhood.

 

Directions

To adult start: From I-70, exit at Eagle (147) and head South on Eby Creek Road. Proceed right at the roundabout. Turn left on Capital Street. then left again on 3rd Street. Park in the school parking lots on the left. To get from the parking lot to the Start/Finish by bicycle, ride up 3rd Street, turn left on Mill Road. then right on Bluffs Drive. Turn right at the BLM parking lot and head up Bellyache Road. The Start/Finish is .3 miles up Bellyache Road at the Boneyard trailhead.

 

Adult race starts on Bellyache Road at the Boneyard Trailhead east of the Bluffs Neighborhood.

 

To kids start, finish line for all races and on-site registration/bib pick up: From I-70, exit at Eagle (147) and head South on Eby Creek Rd. Proceed right at Round about. Turn left on Broadway. When Broadway deadlends, turn left on 5th Street, then right on Capital St. At the first stop sign, turn left onto Brush Creek Rd. Follow Brush Creek Rd. to the Pool and Ice Rink. 

 

On-Site registration will be located at the Pool & Ice Rink (race finish) and will end at 5:20 p.m. You will need to ride/drive to the start by 5:45 p.m. so please plan accordingly.

Parking

There is NO parking at the race start. There is limited parking on East side of the Edwards Medical Pavilion - please reserve this for parents of the youth racers. Adult racers and spectators may also park at Edwards Truck Stop or the after party location at E|Town and ride to the start. Please DO NOT park in the Shaw Cancer Center parking lot or the neighborhood adjacent to the Berry Creek trail head. You will be ticketed and/or towed.

Kids Loop - Same start as past years under Chair #8 at intersection with Berry Picker trail. Climb doubletrack road to Y-intersection; take left at Y (aka: Chicken Legs) toward Gitalong Rd. Turn right onto Gitalong Rd. past red mountain gate, then continue right up Gitalong toward Snow Central. Turn right at Snow Central passing green building on right. At intersection with Liondown, turn right and descend down Liondown to race finish.

Beginner Loop - Same start as past years under Chair #8 at intersection with Berry Picker trail. Turn right at Y-intersction at top of doubletrack climb and onto Liondown on rider's right. Climb Liondown, crossing Berry Picker trail twice before reaching Post Rd. Turn right onto Post Rd/Liondown and ride another 0.5 miles to Hank's Hideaway. Turn right onto Hank's for fun descent! At bottom of Hank's, cross the service road and go straight onto Lower Hank's singletrack (AKA: Powerline). The finish is where the singletrack pops out onto Simba 100 yards above the starting line (no downhill finish).

At bottom of Hank's, cross the service road and go straight onto Lower Hank's singletrack (AKA: Powerline). The finish is where the singletrack pops out onto Simba 100 yards above the starting line (no downhill finish).
Expert/Pro Loop - Same start as past years under Chair #8 at intersection with Berry Picker trail. Turn right at Y-intersction at top of doubletrack climb and onto Liondown on rider's right. Climb Liondown, crossing Berry Picker trail twice before reaching Post Rd. Continue climbing Post Rd/Liondown for uphill "grind", passing top of Cascade lift (on right). At intersection with Cub's Way (at top of Chair #8), turn right and continue grind uphill (past Sport cutoff) to Eagle's Nest. Turn right at horse stables & jump onto Radio Flyer singletrack for a fun & flowy descent!

At bottom of Radio Flyer, turn right back up Post Rd/Lionsdown to first Big Mamba singletrack turnoff on left (Sport Cutoff). Follow same downhill directions as Sport riders (descending both sections of Big Mamba, then Hank's Hideaway). At bottom of Hank's, cross the service road and go straight onto Lower Hank's singletrack (AKA: Powerline). The finish is where the singletrack pops out onto Simba 100 yards above the starting line (no downhill finish).

Directions

Take I-70 to Eagle (Exit 147). Turn south (left) on Eby Creek Road to the roundabout. Take the first right out of the roundabout. Go west on Highway 6 (Grand Ave.) for .8 mile to next roundabout. At this roundabout, take the third right onto Sylvan Lake Road. Continue on Sylvan Lake Road approx. 1 mile and take a right on Eagle Ranch Road. Follow Eagle Ranch Road to Fourth of July Road, turn right. Fourth of July road takes you uphill for another mile or so, leading to Arroyo Dr. turn left. The trail head is approx. ¼ mile on the right.

 

Parking

Participants are asked to park at the after party location in the Eagle Ranch Business District and ride to the start as parking is extremely limited at the trailhead. If participants drive to the start, they will need to park on 4th of July Road as directed by VRD staff. Arroyo Road will be closed to all vehicle traffic between 4th of July Road and Haystacker Road from 4 to 8 p.m.

 

Course Descriptions

Short Loop – From start, ride up 2nd Gulch and bare left on the Jeep Road/Hardscrabble Connector. Turn left at the bottom of the hill towards Mayer Gulch and turn left on Mayer Gulch. Descend to the bottom and stay left towards Turniphead. Turniphead will take you back to the Start/Finish.

 

Wall/Riddle Loop – From start, ride up 2nd Gulch and bare left on the Jeep Road/Hardscrabble Connector. Turn left at the bottom of the hill towards Mayer Gulch and turn left on Meyer Gulch. Descend to the bottom and turn right towards Wall trail. At the corner, you will cross Haystacker Rd. (please use caution. There will be a course marshal here) and continue up Wall to Riddle. Follow Riddle back to Meyer Gulch and turn right. Use caution as loops merge here. Descend Mayer Gulch again and turn left this time onto Turniphead to return to the Start/Finish.

 

Bailey Loop - From start, ride up 2nd Gulch and continue straight at Jeep Road/Hardscrabble Connector intersection. Continue climbing to Bailey single track and turn right. Ride up and down Bailey back to the Start. Use caution when merging back onto the 2nd Gulch trail.
