Golden Pick Award

  HTC LogoVVMBA-Logo-SMALL-2012Ace with Snowcap

Encouraging trail stewardship in partnership with Hardscrabble Trails Coalition, Vail Valley Mountain Bike Association and Vail Ace Hardware.

Competition Rules
Teams and individuals will compete between May 1 and August 27, 2014 to accrue points toward the coveted "Golden Pick Award." The team and individual who receive the most points wins. Like the bike series, people will accrue points toward their individual total as well as their team total. There is no limit to the number of points that can be accrued throughout the summer events season!

Trail workers can come from literally anywhere! Originally formatted within the Mountain Bike Race Series, the Golden Pick is now an award open to bikers, trail runners, hikers, dog walkers, youth groups, school groups, & everyone else who values our beloved trails here in the Vail Valley.
Three coveted Golden Picks will be awarded to the team (min. 3 or more people form a team), individual adult (18+), or individual youth (under 18) with the most total points on August 27.
Any trail worker that volunteers hours, resources, money, or tools/supplies will be invited to attend a complimentary Golden Pick award ceremony in October at The Metropolitan in Beaver Creek.
The 2014 winning team, adult, and youth will receive their very own Golden Pick to display with pride until 2015's winners are announced, at which point the pick will be passed on.

Point Opportunities

  • Join either VVMBA or Hardscrabble Trails Coalition – 15 points/person.
  • Participate in a VVMBA or Hardscrabble Trails Coalition trail work day – 5 points/person/hour of work.
  • Become a VVMBA/IMBA Trail Steward! Join the Trail Steward Program by completing the mandatory USFS training, accepting ownership of a trail where you ride, and reporting status with an easy-to-use website - 25 points for completing USFS training + 5 points/hour of work.
  • Donate time or supplies to VVMBA or Hardscrabble Trails Coalition– 5 points/person/hour of work or 20 points/$100 value of donated supplies.
