At VRD, we thrive on good-natured competition, and we’ve had decades of proven experience conducting the best races, leagues, tournaments or drop-in nights. Our running series, named best running series by Colorado Magazine in 2005 and 2008, attracts the region’s finest athletes and has been used as a qualifier for the U.S. Mountain Running Team more often than any other location in the U.S. Our Wednesday night mountain bike series draws an average 200 racers ranging in age from eight to 60+. In spring, summer and fall, our playing fields are ideal backdrops for youth and adult leagues and sports camps. From softball to soccer, lacrosse to volleyball, Vail Recreation District strives to provide the highest quality instruction and most well-run competitions you’ll find.

Spring MTB Short Track Series
Back for a second year, the VRD will host a spring mountain bike short track series in 2012. No points or prizes…just a fun way to get in shape after a long winter and a great way to launch newcomers into the sport of mountain bike racing. Races will take place on a short, dirt loop and racers have 20 minutes to ride as many laps as possible. Kids' races will be 5 and 10 minutes in length. There will be parties after each race where we’ll celebrate with a raffle and free beer for adult participants.
