THIS YEAR - The Vail Derail Winter Bike Race is the second race in the four-part Vail Grail Winter Race Series. Join us for the Nordic Citizens Race at Maloit Park in Minturn on January 19, the Vail Mountain Uphill on Sunday, February 17 and the Krueger Family Shamrock Shuffle on Saturday, March 9. Register for all four races for only $80.
Join the Vail Recreation District for a winter bike race on Saturday, February 9 at the Vail Nordic Center! The race will test your winter bike handling skills on a circuit race course starting at the Nordic Center at 4 p.m. Cost for this race is $25 pre/$35 day-of for adults and $15 pre/$25 day-of for students.
Youth racers will complete an approximately three-mile course, while beginner and sport riders will do one loop (approx. six miles) and the pro/open categories will do two loops (approx. 12 miles).
Prizes will be awarded by category - men/women juniors, beginners, sport and open - and an afternoon event means you can still get up on the mountain in the morning and come ride bikes in the afternoon. An after-party will be held at the Grill on the Gore in the Nordic Center and will feature the awards ceremony, food for all participants, beer from Vail Brewing Company for those 21+ and a raffle drawing for the chance to win some exciting prizes, but you must be present to win! Online registration is now open.
Race Day Schedule:
2 p.m. - Day of registration opens
4 p.m. - Race start
6 p.m. - After-party and awards at Grill on the Gore in the Vail Nordic Center (Ages 21+ show your race number for a free beer!)
All demo bike proceeds will be donated to the Vail Valley Mountain Bike Association. Fat bikes are recommended for this race but not required.
*Pre-Riding: The actual course will not be available for pre-riding prior to the race, however, racers can warm up on the fat bike and multi-use trails at the Nordic Center.
