THIS YEAR - The Vail Derail Winter Bike Race is the second race in the four-part Vail Grail Winter Race Series. Join us for the Vail Nordic Center Citizen's Race on January 20, the Vail Mountain Uphill on Sunday, Feb. 18 and the Krueger Family Shamrock Shuffle on Saturday, March 17. Register for all four races for only $80.
Join the Vail Recreation District for a winter bike race on Saturday, February 10 at the Vail Nordic Center! The race will test your winter bike handling skills on a never-before-seen circuit race course starting at the Nordic Center at 4 p.m. Cost for this race is $25 pre/$35 day-of for adults and $15 pre/$25 day-of for students.
Youth racers will complete an approximately 3 mile course, while Beginner and Sport riders will do one loop (approx. 6 miles) and the Pro/Open categories will do two loops (approx. 12 miles).
Prizes will be awarded by category - men/women juniors, beginners, sport and open - and an afternoon event means you can still get up on the mountain in the morning and come ride bikes in the afternoon. Also, the course will be open for pre-riding all day Saturday before the race. An after-party will be held at the Gill on the Gore in the Nordic Center and will feature the awards ceremony, food for all participants, beer from Vail Brewing Company for those 21+ and a raffle drawing for the chance to win some exciting prizes, but you must be present to win! Online registration is now open - don't miss out on this first-ever Vail Rec winter bike race!
