Ages 6 -12   

NEW for 2012 - Modified course with additional challenges. Start/Finish/Transition at Golden Peak. Categories for Girls, Boys and Coed in each age group. Competition held on Sunday. Optional Skills clinics for participants on Saturday. FREE Kidsport Strider Cup for kids ages 2-5 on Saturday.
 
The 3rd annual KEEN Vail Kids Adventure Race will offer kids, ages six through 12, the opportunity to experience the thrill of adventure racing through Vail and the surrounding wilderness. During the race, teams of two will work together to navigate a variety of sports and and problem-solving challenges, that may include mountain biking, hiking, tubing, archery, a low ropes course, a zip line, a climbing wall, a Tarzan swing, a giant slip-n-slide and more.
 
Overview: The Kids Adventure Race will begin with instructions and a safety briefing by Race Director and Adventure Racer, Billy Mattison. Competitors will be divided into three waves based on age and will start at set intervals. A start list will be available prior to race. An after party and awards ceremony will take place immediately following the race.
 
Optional Skills Clinics: New this year, adventure racers can participate in three different optional clinics held on Saturday, August 11, 2012 to sharpen their skills and increase their (and their parents') confidence prior to the race. Clinics will be taught by local experts and will last approximately 1 hour. Exact times and locations will be announced at a future date. Cost is $10/session or $25 for all three. Space is limited to 15 kids/session and preregistration is required. Skills clinics are only available for kids registered in the 2012 KEEN Vail Kids Adventure Race. Skills clinics available include:

Adventure Racing & Teamwork
 
Registration is limited to 115  teams of two kids. To register, download the registration form and fax to (970) 479-2281 or email it to bpappas@vailrec.com. Online registration is not available for this event.  There will be no day-of registration for this event.
 
Cost: $150 per team of two. Registration includes a 2012 KEEN Vail Kids Adventure Race backpack and other goodies as well as food during the post-race party and a prize raffle. Optional Skills clinics $10/clinic or $25 for all three.

8am – Wave #1: Racers arrive and place equipment in transition area
8:30am – Safety Talk, Race Instructions
9am – Wave #1: Race starts. Two minute intervals between the start of each 2 teams
 
9:30am - Wave #2: Racers arrive and place equipment in transition area
10:00am – Safety Talk, Race Instructions
10:30am – Wave #2: Race starts. Two minute intervals between the start of each 2 teams
 
11am - Wave #3: Racers arrive and place equipment in transition area
11:30am – Safety Talk, Race Instructions
Noon – Wave #3: Race starts. Two minute intervals between the start of each 2 teams
 
2pm - After party and Awards Ceremony near the Start/Finish location. All particpants recieve food and drinks, certificate of acomplishment and a chance to win raffle prizes. Top 3 teams in each category receive prizes.
