Vail Recreation District Facilities Operating Information During Colorado Classic Bike Race on Thursday, Aug. 16 and Friday, Aug. 17

The Vail Recreation District is excited to welcome pro cyclists, teams and spectators to Vail on Aug. 16 and 17! Due to the nature of the race and road closures throughout town, some VRD facilities will be closed or have alternate hours during the races. Please see below for information on each facility.

Vail Golf Club golf course will be closed until 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16, however the driving range and Grill on the Gore restaurant will be open to public foot traffic all day. Access will not be available by car from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. while South Frontage Road, Vail Valley Drive and Sunburst Drive are all closed. The Vail Golf Club and Grill on the Gore restaurant will be open to the public for regular business hours all day Friday, and access on Friday will be available via one-way, eastbound-only traffic on Vail Valley Drive (right turn immediately after the Vail Parking Structure). Exit from the Vail Golf Club will be one-way, westbound-only traffic on Sunburst Drive and South Frontage Road.

The Vail Tennis Center and VRD Administration Offices will be open both days, with access via foot and bicycle traffic only, due to the closure of the Ford Park parking lot. The VRD sports department will be closed on Thursday, however cornhole and volleyball leagues will play as scheduled.

Dobson Ice Arena will be closed on Thursday, Aug. 16 until 4 p.m. The rink will be open for regular afternoon and evening programming on Thursday after 4 p.m. and all day Friday.

The Golden Peak Pickleball Courts will be hosting the second annual Vail Western Slope Regional Pickleball Tournament from Aug. 15-19. There will be no parking at the pickleball center during the tournament, and tournament players will need to leave extra time to find alternate parking and walk to the courts. There will be no drop-in play at the pickleball courts during the tournament. Click here for more information on the tournament and parking/transportation options.

The Vail Gymnastics Center will operate with regular business hours both days.

VRD day camps will continue as scheduled, and on Thursday, all drop-offs to Camp Vail, Pre Kamp Vail and Camp Eco Fun must be completed at the Golden Peak Children’s Center no later than 8:30 a.m. as access to this area will then be closed until 3 p.m. Leave extra time to get to camp for pick-up as this area will be busy after the bike race concludes. On Friday, camp drop-off access will be one-way via Vail Valley Drive (eastbound only). Vail Valley Drive will be closed to westbound traffic on Friday.

The Imagination Station, located on the second floor of the Lionshead Parking Structure, will have the front playroom open on Thursday but the community programming room (art, science and virtual reality) will be closed for the day. Normal business hours and operations will apply on Friday.
